Vegan Lady Locks

Everyone loved these!

Clothespins
Puff pastry sheets (I used pre-made, store-bought ones)
1 cup milk
5 Tbs flour
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup powdered sugar
1 tsp vanilla

Thaw the puff pastry sheets if necessary. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Roll the dough out into a thin sheet and sprinkle with flour and powdered sugar. Cut pastry sheets into strips as wide as the clothespins and about 5 inches long. Wrap the strips around the clothespins, leaving 1/4" inch of the clothespin on one end exposed and pinching together the dough on the other end. Bake 10-15 minutes until the pastry puffs and becomes golden brown. Remove from oven and allow to cool.

For the filling, mix together the milk and flour in a saucepan and cook on medium heat until a thick paste is formed. Combine the remaining ingredients in a bowl and beat until light and fluffy. Mix in the paste. Place filling into a piping bag or similar device. Once the pastries have cooled completely, fill with the cream. Sprinkle generously with additional powdered sugar.
